South Road Superway

The $842m South Road Superway, running from the Port River Expressway to Regency Road, is the biggest single investment in a South Australian road.

The superway will be 4.8km long, including a 2.8km elevated roadway, and will deliver a non-stop, rapid route for you to move in and out of our city.

A unique inner city stadium will be brought to life - combining the very best of new design with heritage built over 140 years - to deliver you Australia’s best stadium.

The $535m redeveloped Adelaide Oval will seat 50,000 people and is closer to public transport and the CBD than Melbourne’s MCG - bringing inner city, elite sport viewing direct to you.

South Road upgrade

Torrens to Torrens upgrade
A 3.7km upgrade of South Road between Torrens Road and the River Torrens will address delays currently caused by Port and Grange Roads and the Outer Harbor rail line and improve safety along the narrow section between Torrens Road and Port Road.

It will include a new lowered road under Port and Grange roads, allowing the local community, commuters and freight to quickly pass through the area.

Two-way Southern Expressway
The Southern Expressway is being transformed from a one-way reversible road into an 18.5 kilometre, multi-lane, two-way expressway – making your travel to and from the south easier and faster than ever before.

Works are well underway and completion is expected by mid-2014.

The Tonsley Park public transport project will deliver upgraded Tonsley and Clovelly Park stations, a 600 space Park and Ride, Tonsley line duplication delivering 15 minute services, and a new Tonsley Park bus interchange.


Gawler line electrification
The line will be electrified between Adelaide and the Dry Creek rail depot as a first step toward recommencing full electrification to Gawler. The project includes overhead wiring and new signalling infrastructure between Adelaide and Dry Creek and construction of a second substation.
